We Love Paper
We love paper- and we love paper cut-outs and pop-up books and all the ways paper has been used in art and in fabricating products recently. In the Matisse exhibit coming to MOMA in October, we will get to see the amazing work Matisse created with only a scissors. Towards the end of his career, in the 1940's, employing a renewed use of form and color, Matisse cut painted sheets into both abstract and recognizable forms. He then arranged these ecstatic compositions on walls, first on a relatively small scale and later on the scale of entire room-size installations. Exuberent and exalted images - if you can't get to the show, definitely check it out on line.
